Hi! I’m Sophie. Welcome to Table for One.
After spending my twenties working in the video production industry, I started to get itchy feet and my mind began drifting to my one true love: travel. Four weeks of annual leave just wasn’t satisfying my wanderlust anymore, so a couple of months before I turned 30 I left the comfort and certainty of my job and started planning a year-long trip to South America.
I’m a huge advocate for independent adventures (big and small), and with a degree in journalism and loads of experience as a copywriter, creating a website to share tips, tricks and experiences of solo travel seemed like the new challenge that I was looking for.
With this site I want to build a community of likeminded people to give others the confidence and the knowhow to experience the joys of journeying alone. Solo trips don’t have to be year-long backpacking trips; they can be city breaks, long weekends or two week holidays. Whatever your time constraints and your budget, I want to help you have safer, cheaper and more fun adventures.
The name for my site came to me as I sat in an airport departure lounge waiting for my flight for a solo trip to Austria. With time to kill, I went in search of an obligatory pre-flight pint and asked for a ‘table for one’ in the bar. As I sipped my beer I started thinking about how eating and drinking are often what people are most uncomfortable doing alone, and so it felt like the perfect name for this project. Once I arrived in Vienna I wrote my very first blog post, and with that, Table for One was born.
I’d love to hear from fellow independent travel lovers, whether you’re a first timer thinking about planning a trip, or a seasoned pro who’s been doing it for years! Get in touch and let’s save money, stay safe and have the time of our lives as solo adventurers.
